Thomas Jones Signs With Chiefs

Thomas Jones heads to Kansas City on a two-year deal for $5 million. Have to assume he'll be backing up Jamaal Charles.

You know, if they had a decent veteran receiver, the Chiefs would be pretty good at the skill positions -- but with that line, who could tell?

This situation cries out for a ChiefJoe, I'm thinking...

I dunno, I think there is only one RJ. Every once in a while somebody throws out an RJ parody and it's okay, but I suspect that kind of effort is unsustainable. In fact, they might be best because gthey come out once every couple months and really stand out. Too many and it just becomes a shark-jumping fest.

Plus, RJ has opened new windows into his football mind this year--great grasp of 70's trivia and kooky trivia in general, and IMO a far more astute analyst of players and teams not clad in silver and black.

Yup, the best part about RJ is that is clearly very knowledgeable about the game, and on a deeper level than just player names and positions.

Agreed. Raiderjoe is often imitated but never duplicated. And some others.

Hoe does he keep his memory so clear with all that Sierra Nevada and some others?
It's always funny how new guys pick on him and get toasted like a steroid king in the boxing ring.

New guy -- god Ive been on this board for 6+ years -- ask any Indy fan, right, Bob?

And please noteI didn't say great -- but a decent veteran receiver to go with Bowe, Charles, Jones and Cassel would make them pretty good -- until you realize what's blocking for them.

I don't believe Theo was referring to you as a new guy that picked on Raiderjoe, Tom.

What skill position talent? Charles and who?

Why people even have expectations for a career backup QB who has never completed a 15 yard out is beyond me.

Dwayne Bowe is nice but... yeah. I wouldn't include the Chiefs in a list of teams with great skill position players.

Yeah, the thing about raiderjoe is that he actually tends to get a lot of things right; apart from the raiders.

I like the Thomas Jones signing, I think he's underrated and that he can be a very good back next year, and that he can probably last two years as a features back.

The "Chester Taylor car has less miles on it" has been argued so much to the point that I think people are missing out on a very good Thomas Jones. He's the best free agent back IMO. He might not last as long as Chester the forever backup RB, but it's not like in 1-2 years you won't be able to find a replacement for Thomas Jones.

Jamal Charles & Thomas Jones isn't a bad backfield and can allow for the Chiefs to focus on their real problems.

I think the Jets cut him loose at exactly the right time. If you watched TJ a lot last year it's no mystery why he was replaced by Shonn Greene -even with the Shonn Greene fumble issues. TJ just seemed to hit the whole rather slowly, and he rarely separates himself from initial contact. He did pick up 1400 yards and 14 TDs, but with the offensive line that the Jets have it wasn't that monumental of an accomplishment.
His youth has gone away, and now he's old -and in the way ~

Thomas Jones isn't a great running back anymore (never really was), but he's competent and will be motivated for a year or two; especially if the money is mostly guaranteed. 2 years for $5m isn't highway robbery at a skill position even for a backup.

Hey, guys, you do realize that Chris Chambers is a veteran receiver presence for the chiefs, right? Right?
